Functional Capacity Assessments

We provide comprehensive Functional Capacity Assessments (FCAs) for children, adolescents, and adults. These assessments explore how a person manages everyday life across areas such as communication, emotional regulation, social interaction, learning, self-care, independence, community participation, and daily routines.

The assessment process is designed to build a clear understanding of both strengths and support needs, while recognising the impact of neurodevelopmental differences, mental health, sensory processing, executive functioning, trauma, physical health, and environmental demands on daily functioning.

Assessments may include clinical interviews, observations, questionnaires, standardised assessments, review of reports, and collaboration with families, schools, support workers, and allied health professionals where appropriate.

Our FCAs go beyond diagnosis alone to explore the real-world functional impact of a person’s experiences across home, school, work, and community settings. The goal is to identify practical supports, strategies, and recommendations that can improve well-being, participation, independence, and quality of life.

Functional Capacity Assessments are commonly used to support:

  • NDIS access applications
  • NDIS plan reviews and funding reassessments
  • Evidence of functional impact and daily support needs
  • Recommendations for therapies, support workers, assistive technology, and capacity building supports
  • School, workplace, and community accommodations
  • Coordination between support teams and professionals

Following the assessment, clients receive a highly detailed written report with practical recommendations and evidence to support planning and funding applications. Reports may include:

  • Strengths, interests, and protective factors
  • Functional challenges and daily living impacts
  • Emotional regulation, sensory, and executive functioning profiles
  • Support needs across home, school, work, and community environments
  • Recommendations for therapy, support workers, assistive technology, and accommodations
  • Guidance for families, educators, and support teams
  • Evidence and recommendations for NDIS funding and reviews where appropriate

Our goal is to help individuals and families better understand functional needs, reduce barriers to participation, and access supports that promote confidence, independence, and long-term wellbeing.
